DC Tech, WordPress, and high altitude balloons this week in Washington, DC

Week in DC Tech

Happy Independence Day! I hope you had a great time celebrating it. With the short work week, there aren’t as many technology events as we usually see, but for folks looking to talk tech and meet likeminded people, there are some great options. Below are our picks for the week, and you can find a full calendar at DC Tech Events. Have a great week!

Tuesday, July 5
7:00 pm

DC Tech Meetup: This month, in what’s become one of the largest regular technology meetups in the city, DC Tech will focus on sports, entertainment, and media, with talks from an angel investor, a panel on tech in media, and demos on tools like Washington Post’s Labs’ Trove, LeagueApps, and MyChef. Come out for the talks and to meet some new people working in technology.

Wednesday, July 6

Web Content Mavens: Wondering what platform to use for your CMS? This meetup will take a look at WordPress and its strengths and weaknesses.

Saturday, July 9

HacDC’s Flight of Spaceblimp-5: Ever wanted to launch a balloon 120,000 feet in the sky, or see how it’s done (hint: it involves a 3000g helium balloon)? HacDC is launching a high altitude balloon this weekend and has invited folks out to watch and help build the payload, launch the balloon, track it, and recover it once it lands again.
