Tutorial Topic Suggestions

The tutorials section isn’t up and running yet but it’d be great to know what tutorial topics or specific tutorials people would like to see on the site.

So if there’s a part of Drupal you really stuggle with or you just know a topic you think would help others out there suggest it below (by commenting).

Hi Tom, Nice work… and I’d love to see at least one forum here so that we can post… with specifics about DSN.... For example, how soon can we use this with Drupal 6…. I have a new project that we’ve already started with D6 and see that some of the modules used for this site done with D5 have not yet been ported.

Hi!
Thanks for the comments (and shout)! a forum is a great idea, so i’ll add it to the pending features list. Should be a nice feature once the user base has grown!
Regarding Drupal 6 i was going to get all the bugs out the Drupal 5 then upgrade ASAP.
Keep the suggestions coming and thanks again!

I was wondering if anyone knew a good chat/IM module?
I tried BoWob…and it was a bit unsuccessful. I’m working with Drupal 6.0

I think a good,

I think a good, comprehensive tutorial on drupal’s private file system handling is lacking (not just here but in drupal community in general).
Some interesting questions:
1. How to set up private files?
2. What to do if the setting is changed after the files have been uploaded or if host has been changed?
3. What modules work/don’t work well with private files?
4. Quantitatively, what are downsides of using private files and why we should or should not care about it?
5. Alternatives to private files, some .htaccess tricks maybe
etc…

I’ve seen many people battle with these issues so I’d love to have an expert share words of wisdom on this :)

just wanted to leave a quick comment to say thank you for sharing

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, i’ve added them to the “todo” list and will get writing ASAP.
I’m not so hot on the private file system, so if someone else wanted to take a look at that and point me in the right direction that would be great!
thanks again

Hi DrupalSN admin,I am new

Hi DrupalSN admin,
I am new to drupal and so far i have seen some good tutorials but i couldint find a tutorial for what i was looking for. So i guess some people might want the same tutorial.
The following is what am looking for.

1. To have one top story with image stick at the top and embed related news in a bullet format just below it. like in the http://www.cnn.com/US/
2. To have news image slide show like in the following site http://www.nwsource.com/ in the DAILY HABIT area (those images with their news contents)
3. I need to know how to make ajax tabs like in the http://www.nwsource.com/ in the FREE SPEECH area (those FORUM and REVIEW tabs)
4. How can i accomplish news title and teaser with corresponding image thumbnails like in the following site http://www.nwsource.com/ in the DON’T MISS area. Such that image thumbnail is on the left and title & teaser on the right side where by contents dont go below image.
5. How to put photo description like in the cnn website http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/01/obama.palin/index.html?iref=m…

6. How to set a block to show popular news.

I hope one day i’ll see a tutorial for these issues here because in drupal site i couldn’t find any.

Regards,
Mnzava

Hi everyone:I am NOT a

Hi everyone:
I am NOT a Drupal programmer. I run a charity. I self taught myself to create my current web site, pretty basic but it does the job. I am thinking of new site with feature to permit user to create their personal page for personal donation goal. User can invite friends and get pledges which shows up in a thermometer like gauge. It is like a personal campaign. My questions are:
1. Are there any modules in Drupal to do these tasks? Do you know of site doing that?
2. Will large number of user pages cause problem at site?
My knowledge is limited, so please have patience. Thank.

tutorials in drupalsn are

tutorials in drupalsn are great, i would like to give one more suggestion like if a developer wants to develop a module, where shall he start like suggesting what is the first step like, searching in drupal.org, or any other modules, if he wants to go with the customizations what are the steps that should be followed to make module more efficient. etc,..

and till now the tutorial is excellent.

Registration Process

I would like to know how you did the registration process in a tutorial.

It is very nice to see how you first select the user role and then you fill the relevant fields to that role.

I would like to archive something similar, but I don’t have any idea from where to start.

Multistep Registration, a la

Multistep Registration, a la DSN.

This is a great site! The registration process is exactly what I (am I’m sure many people) need. The out of the box process is terrible for long forms and Drupal/developer documentation is horrid. It may not be so bad or ubergeeks, but for those of us who are total n00bs who continue to fall to the bottom of its steep curve, its a total nightmare.
A tutorial on exactly how you implemented the tools to develop your registration process would be fantastic… and possibly prevent me from overdosing on my blood pressure meds.

thanks!

Thanks for always posting

Thanks for always posting great tutorials. I would love to see them in videos so that it would be easier to comprehend. At times, when I am just reading, I could easily get lost in the technicality of terms so videos would be a great way to solve that.

Tutorials are one of the best ways to learn basic and hands on applications. I hope you continue posting these tutorials and I will try my very best to keep up with it. Although, at times I cannot go forward whenever I encounter highly technical terms. I do hope that you get easy on the highly technical stuff.
