Drupal out of the box has good SEO features that makes it Search Engine Friendly (SEF) instantly, just converting a website to Drupal has positive effects on the SEO side. With good themes that have SEF markups and things like javascript (JS) and CSS aggregation in Drupal core it helps to speed up a website and attract search engine bots. Core modules like path helps to define SEF URL for the content of your website with clean URL without the ?q=. If you have path on, I guess the obvious next step is to get pathauto, so I will not include pathauto in my list below.

At d.o the problem was described as “If you are using Drupal 6, you must currently install the 6.x-1.x-dev version of Custom Pagers, as there is a serious bug in 6.x-1.10-beta1 (when used with Views, it only shows up to 10 items, no matter what).” , here in this node.

Non Obvious Solution
The problem had a non obvious solution we discovered with trial and error. The ray of hope was “Pager Node List” array for each custom pager which took array of Node ids to show the custom pager, so the round way solution was as follows:

Arguably Drupal is the best open source content management system out there, Drupal project usage statistics here show around 40 thousand downloads a day for Drupal core (including 5x, 6x and 7x alpha releases) for last 6 months or so. The 5 websites listed below are basically ideal places to showcase your Drupal site that you have build.

Recently for a project we were developing, we had a need to show top X bloggers may be top 5 or top 10 bloggers in a block and after some Googling and searching the drupal.org (d.o) site I could not find anything that fit our needs.

The need for a module
Then I decided to write a module that will solve the problem but in a dynamic and flexible way and came up with the idea for Top X Contributors module. If you want to download the module and try it, you can download it here or take a look at the code at GitHub.com here.

What does it do?

Drupal has a good potential to be used as a blog, forum (some what), wiki or any other dedicated web application or combination of two or more services. Drupal as a wiki, out of the box is a little weird. Problem is Drupal organizes wiki as book pages and books and book pages are related. Some people might not agree that book node/content type is a form of wiki but they can be used as one.

Problem:

Drupal blocks are the basic building elements of any Drupal page. Blocks are placed in block regions and they serve different purposes from showing a list of elements even to show a picture or a video.

Menus of the Drupal system are also blocks of special kind that show links to other drupal nodes/pages/url or external links. (I assume that you know about drupal blocks and how they can be shown or hidden on basic given conditions and also you have some knowledge of php.)

It’s been some years I have been using Drupal, without doubts its one of the best free and open source CMS around. With pass in time Drupal has achieved new milestones and with Drupal 6 the themes/skin aspect of Drupal has also got stronger than the previous versions. The new Drupal theme system is great and to reap maximum benefits from this new and improved themeing system I recommend you Drupal 6 themes.

Think of a way by which you could select one Drupal theme for your blog section, one for your forum and one for the other pages/nodes. So this is possible how you do it what you are going to get in this blog post. I am doing it on a Drupal 6 website, it can also be done for a Drupal 5 website.

Podcast simply seem like a person blabbering about one thing or the other, of just gets some of his friends and tries to make you understand thing you never want to understand. Complementing to it the host again invites one or more experts on the topic and interviews in a funny, lets say annoying manner.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds paired with RSS readers have just changed the way we keep track with our favorite sites. Now all popular browsers like Firefox, Flock etc have RSS reader built in them but if you want a centralized browser independent online solution try Google Reader or Bloglines. In this regard, here are 5 the RSS feeds I feed on to get he latest on Drupal as they happen:

1. Drupal.org- Drupal Modules Feed: Though drupal.org does not have a RSS link in the page I found out http://drupal.org/taxonomy/term/14/0/feed , give you the low down on all the new Drupal Modules.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no usability expert, but I do know pretty quickly when a feature on a site is hard, tedious or confusing. In that same vein I’m a sucker for when things make my life easier! I can do the same amount of work in less time to get to doing the things I enjoy; which is why I love these five easy Drupal usability modules. Setup on all of them is a snap and when you’re done you’ll actually have more free time, and we all need more of that.
